You sound like an intellegent woman. When you fall in love, youll know its right. However, life offers no guarantees but then nothing is ever gained without some risk involved. You are right in that it is a scary predicament, its a lifelong decision. But when you find the one you love, Its not scary, its a wonderful thing. The key to a happy marriage (from my point of view), is mutual respect and honesty and Never go to bed angry. Learn to communicate openly and do it often. Choose your partner as though you are a Princess auditioning for a Prince, because in your fathers eyes, You are a Princess. And we dont want daddy going to prison for murdering the guy who slapped you around one too many times. Do we?
