How can I suppress my cough without taking any medicine/herbal remedies?

I am feeding so I can't take anything for my yucky phlegmy cough. It's keeping me up all night--a great disappointment as my baby has only just started sleeping a little longer! Any suggestions for getting rid of my cough or for helping me sleep while I'm still sick?
